The Lanham, Maryland Operations develop
space instrumentation and perform research in space sciences,
theoretical and experimental plasma physics, optics, and
radiometry.
The office also serves as the headquaters for RSI administration.
For over ten years, RSI-Lanham has provided
high quality science,
engineering, and systems support for customers including the Navy, Air
Force, and NASA.
For example, the Lanham
Operations led the payload
integration and payload operations teams for the successful Clementine
Moon-mapping mission. Other projects have
involved developing sensors for airship and high-altitude balloon
(pictured) demonstrations, the modelling and development of advanced
imaging systems, multi-spectral video imaging, hyper-spectral
imaging, laser-based acoutics, and thermal
studies.
The 5,700-square-foot Lanham space houses
four multi-purpose laboratories specializing in optics, acoustics and
microwaves, a machine shop, offices and a
conference room. The Office is strategically located to enable
easy commute to metro Washington DC, Baltimore, NASA Goddard, Andrews
AFB, and the Naval
Research Laboratory.
