Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
(Job Code SROME)

Multidisciplinary individual with primary emphasis in Opto-mechanical design talent to work on space flight hardware.  This position will be supporting a major NASA flight program performing opto-mechanical design, mechanical analyses, and I&T activities on GSE systems.

Desirable abilities include finite element modeling and analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, systems engineering, optical system analysis and tolerance (STOP), flight hardware design, test system and GSE development and certification.

Flight instrument or flight GSE design and analysis experience required along with optical system design, FEA (Nastran), loads, stress, FMEA and mechanical design for optical systems.  Must be proficient with ProE, Solidworks, mechanisms, telescopes, refractive and diffractive optics mounting, space qualified materials, and have I&T and lab experience.

BS Degree (advanced degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Optics with 7 years experience.


Senior Optical Systems Engineer
(Job Code:  SROSE)

Multidisciplinary individual with primary emphasis in optical systems design to work on space flight hardware.  This position will be supporting NASA, NRL, and MDA programs performing systems concept development, design, analyses, hardware development, I&T, operations and data analysis (complete spaceflight instrument hardware lifecycle).

Desirable abilities include optical design, stray-light analysis, flight hardware design, test system development and certification, and optical remote sensor concept design and development.

Flight instrument or flight GSE design and analysis experience required along with optical design and analysis, I&T experience (test facility certification), lab test, lab hardware development and astronomy.  Must be proficient with telescopes, cameras, arrays, optical element/system design, image analysis, optical system performance, interferometry, metrology, stray-light analysis, Ladar, Altimetry, DIAL and radiometry.

MS Degree in Physic, Optics or Systems Engineering with 3+ years experience or BS Degree with 7+ year’s experience.


Principal Optical Scientist
(Job Code:  POS)

Multidisciplinary individual with primary emphasis in optical remote sensing for space flight systems.  This position will be supporting NASA, NRL, and MDA programs performing systems concept development, design, analyses, science data analysis, hardware development, I&T, operations and data analysis (complete spaceflight instrument hardware lifecycle).

The successful candidate will have sufficient expertise and recognition as an expert in his/her specialty to be a principal investigator on space flight missions.  Experience as a co-investigator with published results for flight sensors/programs is strongly desired.  Sensor concept and proposal development and marketing are an essential element of this position.  Must have experience in flight instrument development, experiment planning and data analysis, optical design and analysis, I&T experience, lab test, lab hardware development, focal plane arrays, telescopes, image analysis, optical system performance, interferometry, metrology, Ladar, Altimetry, DIAL, and radiometry, etc.

PhD (or MS with sufficient background) and 10 years experience.  A strong systems background in the engineering development of space flight hardware is desired.


Senior Mechanical Engineer
(Job Code:  SRME)

RSI is looking for an engineer with a breadth of experience, a systems approach, and a hardware development background.  Desirable abilities include: finite element modeling and analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, systems engineering, flight hardware design, test system and GSE development and certification, fabrication and assembly of complex mechanical systems.

Must have experience in the following:  electro-mechanical mechanisms, robotics, sensor systems, structures, composite materials, rapid prototyping, FEA (Nastran), loads, stress, FMEA, mechanical design for optical systems, ProE, Solidworks, mechanisms, space qualified materials, I&T experience, and lab experience.

BSME and 7 years experience (advanced degree a plus).


Senior Mechanical Engineer
(Job code:  SME)

RSI is looking for an engineer with experience in the development of electro-mechanical subsystems for aerospace applications.  Desirable abilities include: finite element modeling and analysis, flight hardware design, test system and GSE development fabrication and assembly of complex electro-mechanical systems such as doors, shutters, precision focus mechanisms, etc.

Must have experience in the following:  electro-mechanical mechanisms, robotics, sensor systems, structures, composite materials, rapid prototyping, FEA (Nastran), loads, stress, FMEA, mechanical design for optical systems, ProE, Solidworks, mechanisms, space qualified materials, I&T experience, and lab experience.

BSME and 7 years experience (advanced degree a plus).

  • Optical Modelling (ZEMAX, FRED, ASAP, etc.)
  • Optical Metrology (interferometry, theodolite systems, photogrammetry)
  • Mechanical Engineering (design, structural analysis, testing, composites and ceramics, cryogenics)
